Abstract:
Tourism is one of the most important sectors of the world economy, which employs around 235 million people, and that generates more than 9 percent of gross domestic product (GDP) globally. In the first years of transition to a market economy in Bulgaria and the international tourism falls into crisis. While in 1989 the country have made 18.7 million overnight stays by foreign tourists, this number in 1996 was only 5.5 million international tourists but quickly managed to recover their positions. This is evident from the amount of realized currency. In 1998 it amounted to 996.3 million. lion (without considering the amount realized by the transport services) in 1999 already sold 931.7 million., despite harsh economic relations resulting from the bomb site in Serbia in 2000, foreign revenue reached 1 billion and 74 million dollars, and in 2001 - one billion and 200 million. The number of foreign tourists visiting Bulgaria for the period January to December 2010 was 5.4% compared to the same period in 2009 observed an increase of 11% in visits for vacation and holidays.
