THE CHALLENGES IN FRONT OF TOURISM AS AN ECONOMIC DOMINANT

Penju Mihailov

Economics and Management, 2013, vol. 9, issue 1, 24-44

Abstract: It goes without saying that tourism must be an economic dominant. The dispute however is whether tourism has been a key branch and a tower of the Bulgarian economy. It has been considered to be such in the public space. That thesis is predominantly been circulated in the mass media, as well as by the politicians and the people engaged in the tourist branch. The current article tries to answer the question whether there is a good reason for such an interpretation. The problems concerning the effectiveness of tourism as a branch of the economy have also been considered as well as the influence of the socio – cultural differences on the tourism development and the interrelation tourism – health. Last but not least the problem concerning the tourist rent has been examined.
