Sustainability in Service Research

Abstract: Within service research, sustainability has emerged as a subject of increasing prominence in recent years, with its foundational roots tracing back to the hospitality context. To provide a comprehensive overview of the various topics of sustainability within the field of service research, we invited a group of renowned scholars from different academic fields to share their view on this emerging topic. In this Special Research Paper, we start with a systematic literature review on the topic of sustainability within the service sector, followed by individual commentaries and conceptual contributions from diverse research groups. These contributions draw upon different theoretical and conceptual perspectives, including managerial implications for service companies, as well as forward-looking recommendations for further research.
