Abstract: The nationalization of, inter alia, the means of production, which is standardized in Art. 15 of the Basic Law, has not played a role in practice up to now. This has been abruptly changed by a Berlin referendum. The article takes this as a reason to examine more precisely the concept of Social Economy enshrined in Art. 15 of the Basic Law and to clarify the requirements of the process of transformation of a profit-oriented private company into a social-economy one and the importance of models of cooperative societies in this context.
