Utopisches Denken in transformativem Commoning – Erweiterung des Commons-Diskurses um die Bedeutung subjektiver Begehren

Finn Volpert

Z'GuG Zeitschrift für Gemeinwirtschaft und Gemeinwohl, 2022, vol. 45, issue 2, 293-312

Abstract: In this paper, the subjective aspect of commoning is emphasized and through this, the possible significance of desire for the process of transformation through commoning, the conceptualization of commoning and for points of normative reference is pointed out. By examining the relationship between commoning and utopia in the commons discourse, it is found that commoning does have a relationship to utopia and the desire for a better world, but this relationship is not explored. By critically contrasting Sutterlütti’s & Meretz’s theory of utopia and Bloch’s intentional concept of utopia, desires are conceived as a constitutive component of commoning and its transformative potential is located in the interaction between desires and experiences.
