Commoning mit der Natur: Zur Teilhabe nichtmenschlicher Entitäten

Abstract: This contribution integrates recent debates on commons and commoning and the discourse on the rights of nature. It shows how different approaches to commons each rely on distinctive conceptions of human-nature-relations. In Elinor Ostrom’s institutional economic approach, nature represents an available resource; the relational approach to patterns of commoning, as decisively shaped by Silke Helfrich, refers to commoning as a social practice and emphasizes respect for non-human entities. Concepts of more-than-human commons attempt to integrate the non-human in a systematic manner. Finally, it is shown that such a participation of non-human entities is also plausible in legal terms. This is illustrated by numerous cases in which such entities have been granted the status of a legal person.
