Abstract: In 2016, the "idea and practice of organizing shared interests in cooperatives" became the first nomination of the Federal Republic of Germany to be inscribed by UNESCO in the "Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity". UNESCO underscored the importance of the cooperative idea for the coexistence of people worldwide. Cooperatives provide answers to current social challenges and contribute to sustainable development. In this article, the author describes the application process jointly launched by the German Friedrich Wilhelm Raiff-eis⁠en Society and the German Hermann Schulze Delitzsch Society.
