Paradoxe Führung – Ein Ansatz mit Perspektiven für den öffentlichen Dienst?

Abstract: The public sector is full of paradoxes. Nevertheless, there have been few studies dealing with specific leadership behavior under paradoxical conditions. This paper examines the concept of paradoxical leadership based on a survey in public administration (n = 1,726). The results of structural equation modeling show that paradoxical leadership is positively related to the attractiveness of the organizational mission as well as to the performance of employees and decreases their perceived bureaucracy. These relationships are significantly mediated by organizational goal ambiguity and individual role ambiguity in most cases.
