Regionale Unterschiede in der Integrationsfähigkeit des dualen Berufsausbildungssystems

Abstract: As a result of demographic trends, the situation on the vocational training market is no longer as tight as it was a few years ago. In 2011 the nationwide number of unsuccessful applicants fell to the lowest level since German reunification. However, regional differences in the capacity of the dual system of vocational education and training still remain. Moreover, the lack of training places is larger than the official statistics suggest. This article examines the reasons for regional differences in the capacity of the dual system to take on school leavers. Furthermore, it introduces alternative indicators to help reflect the real extent of regional disparities and to analyze their consequences for the training opportunities of adolescents.
