Abstract:
In addition to the levels of unemployment in rural areas, there exits a further problem; how can vacant positions be filled when a relevant proportion of the job seekers are without transport of their own? As a consequence, the project: ‘No job - no car – no chance? – Mobility and employment in rural areas’ has developed mobility and financing concept based on replies to questions posed to employers and job seekers. It is shown that only every six months must an additional job seeker receiving an average level of unemployment benefit be integrated so that an extended need for mobility can be refinanced through a saving of unemployment payments. The study also confirms that active support not only demands investment in public transport but that further development demands changes in other aspects of public infrastructure.
