Abstract:
Last year, the DGB unions in Germany negotiated wage and salary agreements for about 13.9 million employees in total. The wage agreements were a bit lower compared to the previous year. The duration of the agreements was nearly two years (22.8 months). This resulted in an overall annual increase in nominal wage rates of an average of 2.7 percent. This corresponds to the prior years’ figure. This annual increase was above the cost-neutral scope for nominal pay growth, which is the sum of consumer price inflation and productivity growth. The basic agreed pay rose on aggregate in real terms by 1.2 per cent. In some low pay sectors (hairdressing, security services, building cleaning) the unions negotiated pay increases above average.
