Interpretationen der Wirklichkeit

Abstract:
An increasing amount of data raises the number of possibilities for the interpretation of reality. Does youth unemployment in Greece stand at 6% or 60%? Has Ireland successfully carried out its bail-out programme and has the burden being equally distributed amongst the population – or have the poor had to accept more income reductions than the rich? Has the distribution of income in Germany become more equal, as the Gini co-efficient suggests, or less equal as the report of the Economic and Social Research Institute (WSI) claims? We argue over the figures, although it is a political issue concerning the most important problems: does the increase in youth unemployment, the growing gap between income and wealth, and the unequal consequences of the financial crisis have political priority, or not?
