Abstract:
Last year the DGB unions in Germany negotiated wage and salary agreements for about 7.6 million employees in total. The wage agreements were at the same level as in the previous year. The duration of the agreements was nearly two years (22.4 months). This resulted in an average annual increase in nominal wage rates of 3.1 percent. In real terms the basic agreed pay rose by 2.2 per cent on aggregate. This annual increase was in the amount of cost-neutral scope for nominal pay growth, which is the sum of the target inflation rate of the ECB and the trend productivity growth.
