Spielarten des Kapitalismus und die Eurokrise

WSI-Mitteilungen, 2015, vol. 68, issue 4, 245-252
Abstract:
This article examines the role played by varieties of capitalism in the Euro crisis, considering their role in the origins of the crisis and in the governmental response to it. The roots of the crisis are associated with institutional asymmetries between political economies. Northern European economies equipped to operate export-led growth models suitable for success within a monetary union were joined to southern economies whose demand-led growth models were difficult to operate successfully without the capacity to devalue. Conflict over how to respond to the crisis has also been conditioned by the kinds of economic doctrines popular in different varieties of capitalism. To achieve prosperity, Europe will have to create a new kind of monetary union.
