Abstract:
Industry and industrial policy are once more ‘en vogue’. However, despite the positive picture and the successes of German industry on the world markets, the question arises as to how sustainable the German industrial model is in the face of the key challenges. In this discussion IG Metall orientates itself to the concept of ‘effective industrial policy’. That means that industrial production methods must be measured against their social benefits. At the focal point are the interests of the employees, stable employment relationships and good working conditions. This article examines what actions IG Metall considers to be required and where the greatest effects can be achieved.
