Der gesetzliche Mindestlohn in Deutschland: Struktur, Verbreitung und Auswirkungen auf die Beschäftigung

Oliver Bruttel, Arne Baumann and Ralf Himmelreicher

WSI-Mitteilungen, 2017, vol. 70, issue 7, 473-481

Abstract: The article presents evidence on the number and structure of employees in the minimum and low-wage sector in Germany before and after the introduction of the statutory minimum wage on 1 January 2015. Changes in earnings are analysed on the basis of the Federal Statistical Office‘s Structure of Earnings Survey 2014 and Earnings Survey 2015. In addition, the article provides preliminary evidence on the employment effects of the minimum wage drawing on aggregate data compiled by the Federal Employment Agency and discusses the results of the first econometric studies on the topic.
