Abstract: The public authorities frequently engage private nonprofit organizations to produce (e. g., social) services for the common good. Today these exchange relationships are often regulated by public service contracts containing service and quality specifications as well as accountability duties and related performance measurement obligations. This paper discusses the consequences of the implementation of such economic coordination and control mechanisms on the crosssectoral collaboration. One aim of this qualitative study is to provide an insight into the so far underexplored views of public contracting authorities.
