Abstract: Many traditional service providers of handicapped assistance will have to reconsider their business models being confronted with the inclusion goals of the UN-Disability Rights Convention. This article analyses the future possibilities of cooperatives for service providers and for promoting autonomy of people with disabilities, with specific regard to changing financing modalities and paradigms. Furthermore, reasons for the as yet limited number of cooperatives in the field of disability assistance will be given.
