Institutionelle Rahmenbedingungen für neue Genossenschaften in der Sozialwirtschaft

Abstract: From the beginning of the Century and particularly since 2006, when the cooperative act was reformed and social and cultural objectives for member promotion were first introduced into the Act, the number of cooperative start-ups with such aims has steadily grown. Over the course of just five years, from the beginning of 2012 to the end of 2016 their numbers almost doubled (Stappel 2017, S. 151ff.). The author has already discussed the reasons for this trend as well as the types and business areas of such cooperatives in this journal in 2013 (Göler von Ravensburg 2013, S. 90). The current paper is based on this discussion and raises the question why these trends did not occur any earlier and how traditional social economy actors are reacting to it. In doing so it adds the perspective of institutional development paths to the societal and social policy aspects discussed before.
