Nature of the Firm in Western Economic Science: Evolution of the Views

Abstract: Various views on the nature of the firm that existed and exist in the economic science are analyzed in the article. The research methods that could be used in studying Russian enterprises' behavior are given. The aim of the article is to reveal what could be of interest and of significance for understanding processes in the Russian industrial world, among Russian firms. A comparative analysis of classical, neoclassical and institutional approaches to the theory of the firm is presented; the main elements of similarity and the main points of disagreement in different concepts are shown.
