Abstract: In this article the key role of Russian state statistics in describing transformational processes and in Russia’s modernization is emphasized. For the last 25 years the System of National Accounts has been constructed, macroeconomic indicators meeting international requirements are being calculated. But still the national statistics keeps the archaism of the past: introducing western experience reduces the opportunities for economic analysis. The author critically evaluates the experience of implementing the Russian national classifier of economic activities.
