Abstract: Combining leisure with other activities reflects “overlapping consumption”, which must be taken into account for a reliable assessment of the population’s socioeconomic behavior. The paper analyzes the patterns of overlapping leisure consumption in contemporary Russian society, using the data from the HSE academic research project “Economic Behavior of Households”. The authors estimate the prevalence and the volume of overlapping leisure consumption for specific types of everyday activities, identify the sociodemographic characteristics of such consumption, and describe the relationship between the volume of overlapping leisure consumption and subjective time deprivation. The empirical analysis shows that the share of overlapping time within leisure varies considerably across activities. For the Internet, television, and reading, this share accounts for about one-third of the total time, whereas for radio and music it represents the vast majority.
