Abstract: This text studies the characteristics and determinants of exports of high tech goods to 123 countries worldwide over the 1986-2004 period. Firstly, from the finite mixtures method, the existence of clubs in exporting high tech in the world is discussed. Three groups are identified, showing low transition of components over time, demonstrating the cumulativeness and irreversibility of high tech trade. Secondly, from the panel model the determinants of such exports are analyzed, considering among other things, the importance of learning by exporting and of human capital.
