Abstract:
We argue that sociology has not ignored the rational actor in ways sometimes claimed by economists. At the same time, we offer examples of how sociological studies, most especially experimental sociology, augment and inform economics about the role of social identity in decision making. We highlight some ways in which economics and sociology develop and extend each other’s formulations.
