Abstract:
[eng] In its efforts to take the criticisms levelled against GDP into consideration, national accounting benefits from the contribution made by social statistics. In the last decade, it has developed major innovations, such as accounts by household category, and it has provided other useful empirical and methodological tools to address the problem of evaluating domestic production and of taking into account non-monetary dimensions. It has also been very active in the new field of “the economics of happiness” (with the measurement of subjective well-being). This paper offers a critical discussion of the work carried out in these areas by official statistics.
