School Inequalities and Educational Policies: An Introduction
Georges Felouzis
Economie et Statistique / Economics and Statistics, 2021, issue 528-529, 3-8
Abstract:
[eng] The articles in this thematic section of Economie et Statistique / Economics and Statistics have in common to address educational policies at the beginning of the 21st century from the angle of social inequalities in education, by using large databases capable of providing an objective and precise view of the trends in the French education system over the last twenty years. This questioning of inequalities is rooted in a long tradition of educational research, stemming in particular from sociology. Before presenting the articles in the dossier, this introduction proposes a brief overview of what is meant by 'inequalities' in the field of education, their different forms, sources and conditions, and of some aspects of the policies implemented to deal with these inequalities.
