Comparative Testings of Products as a Source of Reliable Information for Consumers

Abstract: The article examines the role of independent comparative testings of products to create reliable consumer information in theoretical and empirical terms. The aim of the paper is to make a chronological analysis of the existing research studies in this area, and to present the results of quantitative research in a selected group of Bulgarian consumers. For the purposes of the survey the method of the focus groups is used and interviews with 69 young consumers - university students were conducted. The opinions of the participants about generating and providing information to consumers on comparative testings of products in Bulgaria are analyzed and summarized. On the basis of the expressed opinions (content analysis) conclusions about the role of consumers’ organizations, the products groups which should be subjected to comparative testings and how to present such information in Bulgaria are made.
