Economic and Social Effects of Higher Education in the European Union

Nikolay Velichkov () and Kristina Stefanova

Economic Alternatives, 2018, issue 4, 517-526

Abstract: This paper is a comparative study of the economic and social effects of higher education and their relevant determining factors in the European Union countries. The study results show that, as is the case with many other areas, Member States differ in terms of the impact of higher education. In less developed countries (mainly CEE countries), as well as countries with a share of the population with higher education lower than the EU average, the positive effects of higher education are more pronounced.
