Economic Alternatives, 2019, issue 2, 251-262 Abstract: Corporate social responsibility (CSR) in all its diverse forms, initiatives, practices and implications, is an inseparable part of strategic planning and management of (business) organizations nowadays. As companies strive to maintain their competitive advantages on the market while aiming to increase their profitability, they now need to act in response to society’s expectations and show their commitment to different stakeholders. One of the methods to inform consumers about the environmental performance of a company and the environmental impact of their purchase decisions is through eco-labels. This paper is a theoretical analysis focused on eco-labels as a form of social responsibility and an opportunity for business organizations and producers to declare their commitment to responsible production practices. The main purpose is to perform a systematic review and classification of eco-labels and to analyze how they can help organizations in informing consumers about their environmental goals.
