Abstract: The purpose of this paper is to present the elements of the methodology for the statistical study of the profile characteristics of prospective university students. In order to achieve this goal, the following tasks аre carried out: Review of the main strategic and nor­mative documents in the field of higher education; Analysis of the current normative basis of different higher education institutions; Presentation of data sources on prospective students and statistical analysis methods; Formulation of recommendations for the study of prospective students’ profile characteristics and admission procedures.
