Abstract: This paper examines the capabilities, associated challenges, and competitive advantages of open-sour ce Large Language Models (LLMs). We analyze their role as a significant driver of digital transforma tion, offering advantages like cost-effectiveness and adaptability. Although they can contribute to risks around data privacy, bias, and security, the results of our research indicate that open-source LLMs ca n serve as viable alternatives for proprietary models.
