Employee Empowerment and Employee Performance: An Empirical Study on Selected Banks in UAE

Abstract:
The fundamental goal of HR in an organization is to effectively manage its employees by encouraging positive attitudes like increasing productivity, job satisfaction, motivation and organizational citizenship behaviour and reducing negative employee attitudes like increased turnover, absenteeism and deviant work place behaviour. The present study has attempted to impact of employee empowerment on employee performance in banking industry in UAE, mainly when the sector has witnessed many crisis in recent times. Responses were collected via survey based on structured questionnaire on 80 employees. Collected responses were analysed and formulated hypotheses have been tested with the use of standard statistical tools such as mean, standard deviation, one sample t-test, correlation coefficient etc. The responses analysis and hypotheses testing have shown certain phenomenon. For example, it has been found that in the present situation the employees in the banking industry in UAE are not motivated to enhance their performance. Regarding the issue of employee empowerment, further improvements have been suggested based on research findings. Finally, the relationship between the employee empowerment and employee performance has also been found of not having significant relationship in the present banking scenario. Further research on different aspects of uncovered or not covered areas has been suggested.
