Abstract: The paper presents some of the most important methods in teaching foreign languages. The first part of the paper places the teaching methods in the historical background, in middle ages peole use to learn leaguages like latin or greek, but this changes radically in the 19th century, when new languages like english or french are introdused, this leads to new methods in teaching foreign languages, to new perspectives in approaching foreign languages. The methods presented in my paper are the translation method, used till the 19th century, the behavioral method, the audiolingual method, the communicative method and learn by teaching method
