Abstract: The aim of this paper is to evaluate demand for air passenger traffic of the functional region of the Northern Adriatic and to define future measures (infrastructure, work and organization) in the air traffic sector of the functional region. The purpose of the paper is to prove the hypothesis that air traffic of the functional region of the Northern Adriatic is dependent on tourism, that existing airports meet the needs of the functional region and that it’s not necessary to plan and build new airports. Research results rest on secondary information sources and scientific methods of descriptive and inferential statistics. The key finding of this paper indicates the growth of demand for air traffic, necessity of technical, technological and safety improvements and the need for expanding and upgrading new areas so that air traffic of the functional region of the Northern Adriatic may function more efficiently.
