Abstract:
Due to consumers’ concern about their health and the rise of their ecological conciseness demand for organic food is increasing. There is an increase in a number of total agricultural land surface used for organic farming and it is estimated that it is about 10% of total agricultural land surface. Market for organic products in Croatia, as well as in Istria, is developing. In this paper distribution possibilities for organic food will be examined. Data on distribution possibilities were collected in conducted research “Market development possibilities of organic farming in Istria”. The goal was to determine if there were already facilities specialized for organic food in Istria and how well were they informed about specific features of organic farming. In July and August 2007 a research, base for this research, was conducted on tourists visiting the Istrian coast in which, among other questions, the question organic food was asked. The goal was to find out if tourists visiting Istria were interested in purchasing and consuming organic food during their stay in Istria. The hypothesis that tourists are interested in purchasing organic food was confirmed, but the tourist thought that the supply of organic food was insufficient. Methods used in this paper are questionnaire, interview and compilation.
