A comprehensive analysis of capacity utilization rates of fast-charging stations in shopping malls: advancing sustainable management through real-time capacity analytics

Abstract:
The widespread adoption of electric vehicles has intensified the demand for effective charging infrastructure, particularly in urban shopping malls. As of June 2025, the total number of charging stations installed in Turkey reached 32 920, corresponding to a cumulative installed capacity of 2.38 GW (gigawatts). This paper analyzes key performance metrics such as utilization frequency and capacity efficiency using a unique, monthly socket-level dataset from a designated mall. A key finding is that the maximum utilization rate has remained consistently low at 12%, indicating significant underuse. The results offer strategic insights that inform the optimization of infrastructure, managing energy resources, and planning future investments to improve fast-charging station performance and support the transition to sustainable mobility.
