Abstract:
The rising concentration of CO2, a primary driver of global warming, necessitates urgent mitigation strategies. Carbon capture, utilization, and storage technologies present a direct solution to reduce industrial emissions, supporting the Paris Agreement’s 1.5°C climate target and advancing Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 13. However, widespread deployment faces challenges, including high costs, limited storage site availability, and inadequate regulatory frameworks. To overcome these barriers, this review critically evaluates recent advancements in CO2 capture technologies, such as membrane separation, ionic liquids, and hybrid systems, which enhance energy efficiency. Such developments are crucial in addressing energy and environmental challenges, thereby accelerating global decarbonization efforts.
