Abstract:
Temperature distributions in swirl flows are studied theoretically and experimentally. The mechanism of cyclostrophic adjustment leading to a balance between the temperature gradient and the centrifugal force is proposed and some idealized examples of possible tangential velocity and temperature distribution are considered. The measurements of temperature in Ranque tube sections were carried out by using the special microthermistors. The measured temperature distributions agreed qualitatively with the theoretical conclusions. Copyright , Manchester University Press.
