Investment and Banking: Some International Comparisons
Oren Sussman
Oxford Review of Economic Policy, 1994, vol. 10, issue 4, 79-93
Abstract:
The purpose of this paper is to describe some central facts related to the relation between financial structure, banking, and investment-across countries. The main conclusions are in line with the previous studies: that banks play a central role in financing investment, and that Japanese banks are much more effective than American ones. It differs from previous analysis in that it takes a more structural view of the investment/banking relation, and puts more emphasis on the short run. The result is-I hope-that these points can be made with more confidence. Copyright 1994 by Oxford University Press.
