Abstract:
Like many farm operations, MBC Farms is trying to determine what strategic actions to take to remain competitive. The farm produces corn and soybeans, contracted specialty corn, and milk. The crops and dairy managers are considering growth opportunities, but have not decided on a strategy. There are a number of possibilities, but the management team is seriously considering expanding either the dairy to take advantage of a milk contract or contract crop production. With the MBC Farms case, instructors can teach farm business managers how to use strategic and financial planning tools to select a growth path for the firm.
