The diffusion of microsystem technologies: the case of the German innovation support programme ‘Microsystem Technology’

Research Evaluation, 1992, vol. 2, issue 1, 37-45
Abstract:
The German innovation support programme ‘Microsystem Technology’ includes an ‘indirect-specific’ promotion initiative. This is used as an example of such initiatives to determine whether they have a measurable influence on the diffusion of miniaturisation technologies. The firms participating in the initiative have mastered a higher level of complex microtechnologies than other firms in German industry, but these technologies are more relevant for prototype development: they are comparatively mature and not complex. The results imply no direct influence of the promotion on the diffusion of miniaturisation technologies, especially complex ones. Copyright , Beech Tree Publishing.
