Abstract:
In this paper joint projects in the European Eureka initiative are studied at the level of nations. Data are obtained from 606 projects. Four technological areas are analysed separately. Multidimensional scaling (MDS) is used to visualise the network of countries. We compare two methods of MDS. The one used by the program Multiscale provides a better representation of the data than the method used by Ucinet. The Multiscale results are used in a regression analysis aimed at explaining international collaboration. The size of countries, in terms of their gross domestic product, has the strongest effect on the number of joint projects. Copyright , Beech Tree Publishing.
