Evaluation practices of scientific research in the Netherlands

Abstract: This article takes stock of Dutch evaluation practices for publicly funded basic and strategic research in three different contexts: institutional strategy formulation; allocative decision-making; and research and science policy strategy. The different evaluation practices are dealt with in detail, by describing their technical set-up. In conclusion, the main challenge for science policy over the next few years is discussed: how can the different evaluation practices be bridged, including the integration of the societal point of view within evaluation practice.
