Integration of immigrants in science, medicine and engineering and the structure of collegial networks in Israel

Abstract:
This study compares the structural attributes of three professional groups — engineers, scientists, and physicians who immigrated from the former Soviet Union to Israel in the early 1990s. These attributes are conceptualised in network terms, that is in patterns of network ties and flow of resources. The distinct characteristics of engineers' collegial networks raise significant questions in relation to the process and policy of their occupational integration in the new scientific and professional environment.
