European research councils and the Triple Helix

Science and Public Policy, 1998, vol. 25, issue 6, 381-386
Abstract:
The national science funding systems are under pressure from national governments to align their operations with national policy objectives on economic prosperity and well-being. Through structured interviews with responsible officers of seven research councils in Europe, this paper analyses the extent to which research councils have accommodated to these pressures. All research councils interviewed do experience pressures and they have developed a variety of coping strategies. Copyright , Beech Tree Publishing.
