Abstract:
What is the impact on research and innovation of the transition to a market economy in Bulgaria? On the basis of an overview of the science system in Bulgaria and its structural characteristics, this paper discusses the outcomes of the restructuring of research and innovation in the country. The main findings of the recently finished project on regional innovation activity confirm that the process of re-integration of the key actors in a national innovation system is still in its initial stage. The improvement of the situation at policy level is related to the measures that are envisaged in the recently adopted innovation strategy and the strategy for research.
