The triple helix organization in practice: Assessment of the triple helix in a Dutch sustainable mobility program

Abstract:
This paper builds on the existing triple helix literature and connects this stream of thought with the literature on complexity, networks, and partnerships. The paper then discusses the possibilities of researching triple helix organizations and the measurement problems in assessing complex organizations. A case from The Netherlands is presented to demonstrate a possible approach for researching the success of networks of triple helix organizations. This case, a triple helix organization working on innovation for sustainable mobility, is considered on the basis of the results of a survey among the project leaders and program managers of the organization. The paper concludes that creating a full triple helix encounters problems in practice. It also includes suggestions for further research on these problems. Copyright The Author 2012.
