Abstract: Amalric looks at how citizen groups, i.e. community based organizations (CBOs), people's organizations (POs), and non-governmental organizations, with the possible support of research institutes could be better coordinated to defend the rights of local communities over their natural environment. Starting from the constraints and opportunities of civil society groups, drawn largely from a workshop co-organized by the Society for International Development (SID), the Asian NGO Coalition for Agrarian Reform and Rural Development (ANGOC), and Development Alternatives of Women for the New Era (DAWN) - South East Asia in the Philippines, Franck Amalric suggests possible future scenarios for more effective coordination.
