Abstract:
Shahid Zia and Mushtaq Gadi give the example of SUNGI, a participatory local initiative in Pakistan to combat food insecurity through a variety of approaches. The programme thrust is to reach out to those marginalized communities who have small loans and training requirements to earn their livelihood and are located outside the catchment area of mainstream formal banking systems, especially the women and small farmers and unemployed youth.
