Abstract: Jacqueline Pitanguy and Rosana Heringer, in a review of the last decade of civil society action on trade and economic liberalization, argue that a social and human rights agenda has to accompany the processes of economic integration. They suggest that the impact of September 11th shows more than ever that a human rights agenda should not be a consequence of trade agreements, but should precede and orient them.
